Notes: Max is a Shih Tzu mix, neutered male, approx. 15 pounds. He had been a stray so we don't know much about his background. From what we can tell he is housebroken and is good natured, although he was very frightened when he first came to us. He is settling in nicely, however. He's a charmer.

Notes: Fidget is a precious, neutered male Toy Poodle who is seven-years old. He is loving and gets along well with other animals. His greatest desire is to be held and cuddled. Notes: Pepe is a young (approx. one year), neutered male Chihuahua. He is partly housebroken. We suspect that he may have been abused because he is fearful of humans until he realizes that no one is going to hurt him. Pepe needs to be in a home with adults only. He's fine with other animals.

Pepe has food aggression towards people and other animals and has to be fed a certain way to help him get over this, he is also nippy when you go at him to pick him up so he has a program that will help him overcome this as well and the new family for Pepe should be involved in that with him and keep working at it. Notes: Dinu - a 10 month old mastiff / rotti mix , neutered July 18th and avail for adoption July 25th, he is good with cats and dogs , is a little timid but comes around, a very handsome lover of a dog, does have some separation anxiety. Given his breed and being as strong as he is, Dinu will need a strong calm assertive owner who can keep with dinu's program and training to insure he grows up to be a well mannered large breed dog.

Notes: I'm originally from Puerto Rico, which is why I'm named "Cheeko". On the islands the natives call mongrels "Satos," which is just a fancy word for mixed breed. I sort of look like I could have some Basenji in me. I'm a one-year-old neutered male who is housebroken. I do better out of crate, but I can be crated. I'm a typical "puppy": playful and wanting a good romp. I LOVE belly rubs, rides in the car, playtime at the park...Yes, the good things in life. I am fine with cats, and should be introduced slowly with other dogs, but can be ok with them. My friends at CDHA tell me I'd be better in a home with older children because I jump with joy and could easily knock down a little person. Capital District Humane takes in dogs/cats/other animals on a weekly basis and places them for adoption in suitable homes.  Our website may not necessarily reflect all the animals available.  CDHA also keeps a list of privately owned dogs/cats needing placement.

CDHA tries to match each animal with the right person or family. We are not looking to "get rid of" animals. Decisions regarding appropriate placement of pets are made on various criteria. One of the things we will ask for is a veterinary reference or the last year or two of all your animals' medical records. If more than one person is interested in a particular pet, CDHA will make a determination regarding an adoption based on which home we think would be best for that animal.

We take adoptions very seriously. If you are considering one of our pets we will want to spend time talking with you and ask that you be patient. Adopting a pet is a long-term commitment. We're seeking quality homes for dogs with individual needs.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT AN ADOPTION CLINIC?

• You will be able to meet the animals for adoption and spend time with them.
   

• Volunteers will provide you with a pet adoption list that describes each dog.
   

• Volunteers will talk with you about what type of dog you are looking to adopt and will try to match you with an appropriate animal. We may have you fill out an "Animal Request Form" if we don't currently have the type of animal you're seeking.
   

• If there is a dog you're interested in adopting we will conduct an in-depth interview and will have you complete an application.
   

• We will want to meet all the immediate members of your household: wife, husband, children.
   

• We will review your veterinary reference or animals' medical records or will call your veterinarian to see if they will recommend you as a pet owner.
   

• We will request doing a home visit.
   

• You may not necessarily be able to take home a dog directly from the adoption clinic, depending on whether or not we can do a home visit or check your veterinary reference. If we have multiple applicants interested in a dog, we will review all the applications and will make a determination based on what we feel would be the most appropriate placement for that animal.
